The response to damage during Hurricane Sandy has included numerous storm damage reduction projects that are proposed or under construction. These include beach and dune building projects as well as the rebuilding of shoreline structures in and around Jamaica Bay. These efforts need to be evaluated and monitored to determine their effectiveness at increasing ecological and community resilience. In addition, alternatives to traditional storm damage reduction measures could be evaluated to determine effectiveness for storm damage reduction and ecological resilience.
